What Some of Our Users Are Saying
Mike – Thought I would let you know, my heart is now functioning above the level for congestive heart failure. Why am I telling you this? I started using the CPAP mask you made back in the summer. Fits real well (in fact I’d like to order a couple more if you are still up for it) with little leaking and the humidifier uses double the water that the gel masks will use…which would seem to indicate a better fit.
I am only telling you this in case you can use it in your search for sponsorship. Is it just coincidental or medically proven to help be more effective? Not for me to say but I wanted to let you know.
Dear Mike,
My son Nathan gave me one of your custom mask pieces for my CPAP machine. My wife Debbie has noticed a day and night difference in the amount of sound I make while asleep. My wife thanks you as do I.

I’m writing this note in response to a request to share my experiences with a prototype soft cushion CPAP mask, from Mask Solutions.
I’ve used a CPAP device since the spring of 2007. I was forty-seven years old at the time. It was an immediate game-changer for the quality of my sleep, and indeed for the quality of my life. Not only was I finally well rested, I also got rid of the constant sore throat that I thought was just a part of life. I still use the same machine that I was issued back then – a Respironics REMStar-M. I also still use the same model of mask – a ComfortGel Blue nasal mask. I never sleep without my CPAP. It’s been all over the world with me – France, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, all parts of the US and parts of Canada. I don’t leave home without it. I use it when I nap and when I go camping, though I don’t do much of the latter anymore.
Though my sleep was no longer interrupted many times a night by apnea events, it was still disturbed every two or three hours by the mask shifting subtly out of position on my face. This would result in loud leaks, and sometimes by buzzing “raspberry” noises, caused by the thin elastomeric membrane vibrating in the flowing air around the leak. The edge of the membrane was also prone to cause itchy spots where it touched my skin.
That said, I never really thought much about these conditions, as they were much less bothersome than apnea. I just accepted them as the status quo. Then early this year, I was contacted by an agent of Mask Solutions LLC, to perform some engineering and design work for them, on a new, purportedly comfortable low-leak CPAP mask. I signed-on, and as a fringe benefit, I was given a Mask Solutions soft cushion that fit my ComfortGel mask. The thin membrane and blue gel core were replaced with a formed soft cushion, designed and fabricated by Mike Ellis of Mask Solutions.
Several months have passed, and I have thoroughly enjoyed this enhancement to the CPAP experience. I noticed immediately upon putting the mask on my face the first time, that the interface was much friendlier. It is not itchy, and does not feel “rubbery”. The mask just fit my face, and required less adjustment to get it to seal. That night, I slept through, without once waking up with a noisy, leaking mask. It is still performing similarly today, only requiring occasional washing to remove facial oils. I will also add that I am a daily user of a SoClean CPAP disinfecting device, which exposes the mask, the tube and the water reservoir to ozone. I have not noticed any degradation of the Mask Solutions cushion from this action – it appears to tolerate the ozone well.
To sum it up, I really like the Mask Solutions cushion. I would not want to go back to the standard mask.
